Life's a BEACH!

So this blogging thing is fairly new to me . . . bear with me a bit!

As a child, the best part of any summer vacation was going to the beach! Living in the city on a island surrounded by sea, it was our solace to go to the beach. Playing in the sand, swimming in the warm salt water, feeling the rocking motion of the sea, and then going home with this hypnotic swaying motion that remind us of the fun times we had that day! Ah, memories!

But for as far as I can remember, people have always said "Life is a bitch" when things dont exactly go the way they intended it to. Lets face it - Life is hard most of the time! Most people end up stuck in a peculiar rut like a monotonous 9 to 5 job (IF they're lucky) never quite achieving their dreams and desires. People can be mean and inconsiderate to each other, and if you're trying to follow your dreams, things, people, and situations can strongly discourage you. So its fairly easy to call Life a 'bitch', a royal pain in the ass!

BUT . . . sometimes . . . Life has its moments of sheer brilliance! Magnificence even!

For example, when I left university, I sat at home unemployed for almost 2 years. Many of my colleagues were pretty much in this same boat. But one fortunate afternoon, a lady working with a prominent telecommunication company in Kingston had a short conversation with me and requested my resume. Two days later I was called in for an interview with said company. Following this interview (for which I was very doubtful I made an impression) I had another interview with a bauxite plant within the same week. So I went from sitting at home unemployed for 2 years to having 2 interviews and job offers, and having to choose between the 2. And since then I've been at the same job for over 4 years now. So just like that, Life turned itself around and made me eat my words. At this point I believe . . . Life, is like a beach.

Like a beach, Life is often bright and sunny, sometimes too hot to handle. The sand gets too hot to walk on so you have to run from the car to your spot on the beach. Then when you hit the water, most of the time its nice, warm, and calming to the soul. Other times, the water's cold, rough, and sometimes filled with seaweed and other gross debris. So you have to hop-skip-and-jump to get to that great spot in the water, if you want to. Some people choose not to jump in, some prefer to sit in the sand and soak up the sun, some spend the whole day in the water, and some prefer not to go to the beach at all. Just like Life. Some people choose to exclude themselves from Life, some jump in whole-heartedly, while others sit back and watch people have their fun in Life. How funny is that?! Never thought of Life like that huh?!

To me, Life gives back exactly what you want! If you want to have fun in Life, then jump in and enjoy Your Life. If you want to learn as much as possible, then sit on the sand in the shade and read, learn what you can for as long as you want to. If you want the most out of Life, jump in and swim around, try some snorkeling, wind-surfing, whatever it is - try it! But If you'd rather sit at home sulking about how "Life sucks", then guess what? Life will actually 'Suck'!!!

So when Life's a Bitch to you, ask yourself, what do I want from Life? And act accordingly!

Peace, Love, and Lots of Happiness at this Beach called LIFE ;)

You are truly Great!

A couple years ago I read this book (cant remember the name right now) but it spoke of the Women in the Bible and their significance to history and to the Men of biblical days. Of course it started with Eve (the mother of mankind).

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and the animals therein - this we all know like the back of our hands right?! But then he created Man and said to him - "name all the creatures of the earth". In Adam naming the creatures of the earth, God realized that Adam could not find a creature suitable or worthy of his company and equal to him. God also realized that Adam was getting lonely, humans being social creatures and all. So he caused Adam to sleep one night in which he created his companion - a woman! Eve! When Adam arose from his slumber, he immediately recognized this creature, this woman, Eve! He recognized her and exclaimed and identified her as his own.

The essence of the Creation Story to me is that Woman, Eve, was created equal to man, she was/is his companion, his helper, his assistance, the only one that connects to his being; she was created "bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh" (Adam, 00BT). This does not label us inferior or weak. In fact it describes the nature of our being, our personality, being compassionate, nurturing, caring, and generally helpful beings. No! We were not created to subject ourselves to the whims and fancies of man; we were not created to serve man as servants would their master. In fact, the book puts a pretty twist on the term 'helper and assistance' - if the Salvation Army assists or helps the poor and needy does that make them weak or inferior? I didn't think so!

Our need to satisfy man and please man will be for another blog but for the mean time - The moral of this note to let you know that:
  • You are not weak beings
  • You were created equal to man
  • You are not inferior to man
  • God created you because man was lonely and need companionship and help - You were created specifically with a purpose
  • God had to stop the world (or make Adam sleep) and create us because the world was just incomplete without us; Adam was incomplete without us!
  • You are beautiful and should NEVER let a man put you down or put you in a place that is beneath you!
So I implore you - Love yourself Ladies, because You truly are Great!!!!
